KEY POINTS OF HYPOTHESIS 👇📝

Hypo+Thesis= Hypothesis
‘Hypo’ means tentative or subject to the verification
‘Thesis’ means a statement about the solution of a problem.

Hypotheses are formal statements regarding the expected or predicted between two or more variables in a specific population.

(TYPES OF HYPOTHESIS)
Alternate Hypothesis (H1)-

is a specific, clear, and testable proposition or predictive statement about the possible outcome of a scientific research study based on a particular property of a population, such as the presumed difference between groups on a particular variable or relationships between variables.

Null Hypothesis (H0)-

It is also known as a statistical hypothesis & is used for statistical testing & interpretation of statistical outcomes. It states the existence of no relationship between the independent & dependent variables.

Problem- ‘There is no relationship between smoking & the incidence of coronary artery disease.’

Directional Hypothesis

Directional Hypothesis states the nature of the relationship between two or more variables such as positive, negative or no relationship.

Non-Directional Hypothesis

It reflects the relationship between two or more variables, But it does not specify the anticipated direction & nature of the relationship such as positive or negative . It indicates the existence of a relationship between the variable, but not Direction.

TYPE-1 ERROR AND TYPE-2 ERROR

Type I error (false-positive) occurs if an investigator rejects a null hypothesis that is actually true in the population.

Type II error (false-negative) occurs if the investigator fails to reject a null hypothesis that is actually false in the population.
